Awards season is upon us, and what would cheering on our favorite actors and actresses be without award-winning wine to go with it? As many of you know, we take our movies very seriously so whether you’re joining us for our Academy Awards Viewing Party on February 9th or watching from the couch, we’ve lined up the Nine Hats wines that you should be drinking on Oscar® night.

Nominee #1: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood paired with 2017 Nine Hats Pinot Gris

Let’s take it back to 1969. The 2019 comedy-drama, Once Upon A Time In…Hollywood, written and directed by Quentin Tarantino starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and Margot Robbie takes place in none other than Los Angeles, California. This modern fairytale takes viewers on a journey through the end of Hollywood’s golden age. Speaking of golden, our 2018 Nine Hats Pinot Gris has a golden hue that shines off the glass and tastes as good as it looks. Just as the film takes you on an emotional rollercoaster through the changes of Hollywood, this wine takes you on a rollercoaster of flavor. It has a vibrant mouthfeel providing notes of white peach, orange blossom, honeysuckle, and white citrus. It’s a wine that’s extremely refreshing, making it a great companion to this dramatic Academy Award-nominated film.

Nominee #2: Ford v Ferrari paired with 2017 Nine Hats Chardonnay

This one is for all you car lovers out there! Based on a true story, Ford v Ferrari takes you on a chase back in time to 1966 when Henry Ford II grows an insatiable appetite to beat the unstoppable Ferrari team. He demands his racing division build a car to defeat Ferrari at the world’s oldest car race, the 1966 24 hours of Le Mans. Car racing is all about crossing that finish line and the feeling the driver gets when doing it, which is why this film is a great match for the 2017 Nine Hats Chardonnay. It’s known for its bursting flavors on the palate and lingering finish, making each sip seem like it could last forever. The elegance of this wine will have you feeling like a racecar driver who just won their big race.

Nominee #3: Joker paired with 2017 Nine Hats Red Wine

If this movie were to be described as a wine it would be our 2018 Nine Hats Red Wine. It’s a multi-layered blend of intense fruit flavors with abundant spice, and if you’ve seen the 2019 film Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix, it’s got it’s fair share of layers and plenty of spice. This movie takes you behind the curtain of Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian whose insanity inspires a violent counter-cultural revolution. If you enjoy psychological thrillers then this one’s for you, but be sure to open your Nine Hats Red Wine before pressing play.

Nominee #4: Little Women paired with 2015 Nine Hats Merlot

As all classic films should, we’re going to conclude this blog with a happy ending, and what could be happier and more inspiring than a coming-of-age film? The 2019 film Little Women is the seventh adaptation of the 1868 novel by Louisa May Alcott. The film follows four sisters who are determined to live their lives on their terms — similar to our winemaking philosophy here at Nine Hats Wines. These women are bold and courageous, especially in an era when they are expected to follow the rules. That’s why this movie is the perfect match for the 2016 Nine Hats Merlot. This wine consists of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot providing rich tannins and boldness on the palate, and if there’s anything that this wine and movie have in common, it’s boldness.
